Kathleen H. (Stingo) Buccellato, 67 of Howell, NJ passed away May 23, 2020 at Centra-State Medical Center, Freehold, NJ. Born on March 12, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY she arrived on her mother’s birthday after she cooked a big Italian meal. She grew up in Woodhaven, NY, surrounded by her many aunts, uncles and cousins. Kathy attended Our Lady of Wisdom Academy, graduated from Hunter College and then, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Business Education from the University of Connecticut. In 1974 she started her teaching career at St. Agnes High School in College Point, NY where she taught Business Education and coached basketball. On August 2, 1975 she married, Joseph. Their wedding day was very hot, the power went out, but the dancing and partying continued. It was a night to remember! Shortly after, they bought their first home in New Milford, CT, where they resided for 10 years and had two daughters, Kerribeth & Katilynn. They enjoyed living near Candlewood Lake, going boating, swimming and fishing with friends. Kathy retired from teaching when her children were born. In 1987, she moved to Howell, NJ after Joseph was transferred for work. They wanted to live close to the water, and enjoyed going to the beach, frequenting Lavallette and Sea Girt. Over the years they went on many adventures and vacationed in Orlando, Hilton Head, Hawaii, the Caribbean and many cruises. In 2017, she traveled to Italy with her friend Jean, a lifelong dream of hers. She found a new passion as a floral designer and instructor for Creative Designs Florist in Howell where she enjoyed working for over 20 years. She loved making bridal bouquets and had an eye for detail. Kathy then got a job at the ARC of Monmouth as a Social Worker, and worked at Boscov’s in the Bridal Registry Department, before retiring in 2015. Her first grandchild, Dylan was born that year and she traveled two days a week to Hoboken to care for him. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, never with just one present, but many presents. She was very creative and loved to decorate her home for all the holidays, making it look like the Macy’s storefront windows. Kathy loved to get dressed up, carefully picking out her coordinating accessories and shoes, frequently shopping at her favorite store Talbots with her daughter Katilynn and friend Jean. She enjoyed cooking Italian meals for her family, like sausage & peppers, chicken cutlets and meatballs. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joseph A., her daughters, Katilynn Buccellato and Kerribeth McKenna & her husband Andrew McKenna, their three grandchildren whom she adored, Dylan, Audrey and Kayleigh McKenna and a sister, Suzanne Stingo. She is also survived by lots of friends and many extended family members. She is predeceased by her parents, Salvatore & Catherine Stingo. Visitation is Thursday 2-5 PM with a prayer service at the Oliverie Funeral Home in Manchester, NJ. Interment is Friday at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
