Obituary for Laila Attino

Vincenza "Laila" Attino, 99, of North Haven, CT, daughter of Antonio Urgola and Mary Lauri, returned home to the Lord on Wednesday June 24, 2020. Laila was born on January 31, 1921 in Greenwich Village, New York City and lived there for most of her life before moving to Brooklyn in 1978. For the past eleven years, she lived in North Haven, CT with her daughter, Tammy and son-in-law Kenny and grandson Justin Salvadore and spent the last six months of her life in Manchester, NJ with her daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law Jack. Her family and friends were everything to her. She opened her heart to everyone she met and, likewise, they all loved her, instantly. Every guest in her home enjoyed her cooking and baking, especially on the holidays! As a true Italian American “nonna”, she enjoyed being very generous and caring for her family and friends and was amazingly active for her entire 99 years.
She was a very proud American who loved her country and the American flag. She was devoted to Sacred Heart, Blessed Mother Mary and Saint Anthony and never failed to thank God for blessing her with a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. She always asked God to bless those she loved and in the old Italian dialect she would say, “La famiglia è per sempre!, Family is forever. She would want everyone to live their lives to the fullest and to be blessed with good health and happiness always.
She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Attino, in 2009, as well as her siblings, Frances Urgola Attino, Elizabeth Urgola, Salvatore Urgola, Anna Urgola, Benjamin Urgola, John Urgola, Caroline Urgola Lawdanski, and Giovanna Urgola Colaiacolo of Napoli, Italy and her beloved nephew Thomas Attino. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Attino (Jack) Reddington, John (Florence) Attino, and Tammy Attino (Kenny) Bradstreet, three grandchildren, Natalie Attino (Brian) Hoeflschweiger, Thomas Attino, and Justin Salvadore, one great granddaughter, the light of her life, Aria Laila Hoeflschweiger, as well as her sister-in-law Virginia Urgola and dear nephew Anthony Attino and niece Theresa Healey and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation is Sunday 4-8 PM at Oliverie funeral home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Monday 10:00 AM at St John’s Church, Lakehurst with interment on Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.
