Obituary for Thomas A Cherney

Thomas A Cherney 77 of Manchester New Jersey died Sunday March 6, 2022, at Hampton Ridge Health Care, Toms River New Jersey. He was predeceased by his wife Monica of 54 years, in 2021. Born in Bronx New York, he resided in Old Bridge New Jersey for 35 years before moving to Manchester 16 years ago. He is predeceased by his brother Michael Cherney. Surviving are his three children, William T Cherney, Sharon A Dietrich and Kevin P Cherney, and wife Nicole Cherney, a brother Rudolph Cherney, and wife Kathy, a sister Kathy Schlegel, a brother Frank Cherney, and wife Joyce, Annie Brienza, and husband Joe, Terry Brown, and husband John, Bob Cherney, and wife Denise, four grandchildren, Nicole, Sammantha, Connor, and Gavin and three great grandchildren, Adley, Lily and baby Jim Jim. Tom had various employment positions through his life most notably as an Old Bridge Police Officer for 11 years, an Inspector for Dupont Fibers in Maryland, the sole proprietor of East Coast Fiber in Belmar New Jersey and a Maintenance Supervisor for the North Dover Elementary School in Toms River. Tom was an avid reader of books, reading hundreds of books. He also was a published author of several poetry books which included poetry and artwork from his granddaughters and other dear friends. He loved to volunteer for ARC of Ocean County and was a supporter of their causes. He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers and vegetables from seedlings. Services are private.
