Obituary for Robert William "Bob" Painter

Robert W Painter 88 of Toms River died peacefully at home with his family on Friday July 1, 2022. Born in Philadelphia PA, he resided in North Carolina and California prior to moving to Toms River in 1969. He graduated from Millersville College with his teaching degree and later completed his Doctoral degree in education. He served honorably in the Marines and retired Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. He taught Industrial Arts, Mechanical Drawing and coached Boys Cross Country, and Track & Field for Central Regional High School for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. Once retired, Bob continued volunteering and officiating at Track and Field events and fully retired in 2006. He enjoyed building furniture, especially for his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included tennis, traveling and gardening. He was active with the monthly social with the Teachers Retirement. He was a member of the Toms River Presbyterian Church and Choir in Toms River. He is predeceased by his parents Ralph and Mabel Painter, wife Audrey Kirchhoff Painter in 2020, his daughter-in-law Suzanne Neumann-Painter in 2022 and his grandson Robert Painter in 1993. Surviving are his sons, William Keith Painter and Robert Kirk Painter and his wife Ann, his brother, Ralph Jr. Painter, and his three grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly and Michael and three great grandchildren, Declan, Maeve and Rhys. Cremation is private. Services will be held at Toms River Presbyterian Church, Toms River Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 AM.
