Mary L. Schmitt, 79, of Manchester died Saturday November 12, 2022 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Paterson, she resided in Hillsborough for 34 years and Venice, FL for 7 years before moving to Manchester in 2014. She summered with her parents every year in Seaside Park where they had a guest house. She graduated Caldwell College with a BA in Education and English. She taught English in Paterson, Alabama and Wisconsin before teaching in Hillsborough for a career that spanned over 40 years and included tutoring ESL-English as a Second Language. Upon retirement, she moved to Venice, FL, before returning to Renaissance in Manchester to be close to family with 3 grandchildren. Her pride and joy were her sons and grandchildren. She loved the beach, was an excellent cook, and was a fan of the NJ Devils and NY Giants. She had a passion for writing poetry, for which she was published. Surviving is her husband of 55 years, John W. Schmitt, 2 sons, John C. Schmitt & his wife Stacey and William D. Schmitt & his wife Kellie, 3 grandchildren, Ryan, Allison & John W., and nieces and nephews, Eugene M. Fichter, Deborah Wooley and Peter Schmitt and great nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Hensley and Bohde. Memorial Gathering is Thursday 11/17/2022, 4-7 PM with a 6 PM service at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester.
