John S. Shamka 75 of Manchester died Friday, February 21, 2020 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived for many years in Atlantic Highlands, before moving to Manchester 40 years ago. He was employed for 30 years in Shipping/Receiving at Bell Labs, later Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, before retiring in 2001. He was a parishioner of St John’s Church, Lakehurst. He was an avid Yankees fan, never missing a game. He loved to cook. He was also an avid photographer and had his own art studio. He loved music, especially classical jazz, and he loved animals. He is predeceased by his wife, Susan (Harrison) Shamka, who died in 2004. Surviving is his daughter, Kristi Shamka at home, a son and daughter in law, Timothy and Beth Marie Shamka of Fallston, MD, and his sister, Helen Marie Rudolph of Portsmouth, RI. Visitation is Monday from 4-7 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday at 10:00 am at St John’s Church, 619 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst with entombment to follow at the Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
