Obituary for John J Nemecek

John J. Nemecek, 78, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Born and raised in Astoria, Queens, John lived in Dumont, NJ, from 1972 until 2007 when he relocated to Toms River. A bookkeeper by trade, he worked in Macy's in NYC for many years. John enjoyed his time there, retiring in 1994 after more than 25 years of service. He especially loved volunteering as a clown during several Macy's Thanksgiving Day parades. An avid coin collector, John loved to play the lottery as well. A sponsor of the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, he enjoyed countless theatrical productions, preferably followed by fine dining. Always a kind and gentle man, John was dedicated to the safety and well-being of animals, and he rescued numerous cats in need of a loving home throughout his lifetime. John is predeceased by his beloved parents, John and Helen Nemecek. He is survived by his devoted partner of 52 years, Philip Kliewe, along with several nieces and nephews, as well as his dear friend Barbara Swiss. Friends and family may offer condolences at the Oliverie Funeral Home, located at 2925 Ridgeway Road in Manchester, on Sunday between the hours of 1:00 and 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River on Monday at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, PO Box 567, Kanub, UT 84741-0567.
