Obituary for Janice G Kushner

Print
It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Janice Kushner (née Biheller, and formerly Greenberg and Gally) on February 24, 2021. Janice was the caring wife to Jack Kushner and the loving mother to Tammy Ludwigsen and Shari Seltzer. She was an adoring grandmother to Julian, Joel, and Charlotte Seltzer and Adam and Noah Ludwigsen. She is survived by her husband Jack Kushner and her sister Donna Manley. She was also a great grandmother to Jack’s 4 loving grandkids. Janice was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1937, and attended Sheepshead Bay’s James Madison High School, where she enjoyed competing in “Sing.”
She attended Hunter College for music. She worked for Burlington Fabrics as an Administration Assistant to the Vice President.
On Valentine’s Day she met her future husband Albert at the Hotel New Yorker. Shortly after they were married. After a stint in Jersey City, they moved to a new subdivision development in Edison, NJ, where they raised their two daughters.
Janice was a warm, engaging, welcoming hostess and her home was always filled with love and laughter.
Janice worked as a substitute music teacher, an assistant to an insurance agent, and later she was the President of JAG Sales, an industrial supply company. Following the death of Albert, in 1985 she became the CEO of JAG Sales. In that role, Janice wore many hats: taking care of sales, delivery, inventory, and bookkeeping.
For over 50 years, Janice maintained friendships with her canasta/mahjong ladies’ group. They watched each other’s children grow up and always had a reserved table at their children’s and grandchildren’s bar and bat mitzvahs.
At the Shiva for her father Julius, she reconnected with Walter Gally, a recent widower (and a distant cousin). She became a bride to Walter in 1989, and they were together until his death in 2000.
Later, Janice moved to Renaissance in Manchester, NJ. She loved the “Active Adult Community,” as the schedule of events (including shuffleboard, bocce, and water aerobics) reminded her of happy times at summer camp in upstate New York.
Love struck a third time with her neighbor across the street (widower) Jack Kushner. And soon they were married in winter 2003. Together they enjoyed Atlantic City, attending the annual NBA All-Star Weekends, cruises, bowling, leaf-peeping in the Poconos, and spending time with their large family.
She was a devoted daughter to her parents Julius and Miriam Biheller. Every Sunday the family would go to Brooklyn for dinner and barbecues.
Her life was as colorful as her loves: orchids, peacock feathers, and butterflies.
There will be a private family graveside funeral, and a virtual Shiva to follow.
