James Aloysius Baine, Jr., 87, of Brick, died at home on Friday January 8, 2021. Born in Irvington, NJ, he resided in North Jersey before moving to Brick fifty-seven years ago. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal, from 1953–1955, and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education & Administration from Glassboro State College. Jim taught sixth grade for the Lakewood Board of Education for thirty-two years before retiring. In the 1980s, he cofounded a weekend educational program that encouraged creative thought and innovation in grade-school children. He was a parishioner of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. A friend of Bill W. for fifty continuous years, Jim was committed to life, always curious, generous, a great story-teller, and had varied interests. He was a fan of the theater arts and spent eighteen years acting with Spring Lake’s Pine Tree Players. Jim was an avid fisherman—both at the surf and on the stream—and was known to make a delicious pot of Manhattan clam chowder. He was a life-time Yankees fan and WWII history buff. Swing and Big Band music ran through his bones. It is fair to say that Jim enjoyed life and sharing it with those around him.

Surviving is his wife of sixty-one years, Rochelle “Bitsy”, sons, James A. III and his wife, Bonnie, and Michael P. and his wife, Robin, and daughter, Julie A. Baine and her husband Michael Russem; sister, Rosemarie Frick and five grandchildren: Ryan, Zachary, Jim, Brenna, and Kaleigh. Memorial Gathering is Thursday from 11–1 pm at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road in Manchester. Inurnment to follow at Brigadier Gen Wm C Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
