Obituary for Herbert Alan Freeman

Herbert Alan Freeman 60 of Manchester died Monday May 4,2020 at home. Born in Fort Riley, Kansas, his father’s military career took them all over the world. They lived in various states as well as Spain, Holland, France, Germany, and Greece. When his father passed unexpectedly when Herb was thirteen, the family settled in Tinton Falls. Singer, songwriter, percussionist, and actor, his over thirty years in the business has covered a wide spectrum in the performing arts, ranging from local theater, to sharing the stage with the likes of Carlos Santana, Tommy “Bones” Malone of the Blues brother fame, Paul Reed Smith, Bruce Springsteen and Ray Charles to name a few during his tenure as a manager with the Hard Rock Cafe in New York and Atlanta. In more recent years he was a vocalist and percussionist with the Moroccan Sheepherders. Music and friendship were Herb’s two loves - so performing for and with his friends would bring him pure joy. Surviving is his wife of four years Virginia, his daughter Tia, his stepson Sean (Brigid), brother Jeffrey L. Freeman (Natalie), brother David Scott Freeman (Ellie Bell) and sister Sharon Freeman, nephews Eddie(Q), David, Daniel, Jeffrey, Jorden, great niece Nevaeh, great nephew Jeremiah, plus many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Private Visitation will be livestreamed from Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd in Manchester on Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 3-5 PM with a 4 pm service with a musical tribute for Herb to be held at a later date. Herbie, Jesci and I will Miss You Always n Forever 💖🤗 we will treasure Always all the many memories we have with You n Tia, music the band stuff..etc..etc.. the best one..when you won a snowball fight against us sitting down on the porch, lol ...theres no way! I still say u cheated somehow but you are a quick snowball thrower with great aim... my heart hurts n I will never believe your gone..cause to me..you will be always with me n Jesci..we will carry you in our hearts n memories everywhere ..I miss my friend! Your amazing smile, are psychological talks, your advice, love and humor... and your truly talented voice..theres is absolutely no one who can sing in general like you and also sing a Pink Floyd song as a lead vocalist but also sing the background noise n vocals at the same time... still amazes me how u do that! As I type this, I can hear your laugh, your voice both in conversation and onstage. Oh, what a voice you have, my friend. Every time you sang, my brain just focused on you. What a gift.

Many years ago, when I knew no one in the music circuit, we started out of the blue talking about music, then life. In a matter of a few hours, we spoke and connected, our musical and live experience brotherly connection was created. I am so honored to have met you. We talked about everything, from life's struggles, our love and commitment to our children, our own desires out of life.. and of course, the music. Our conversations about the music were never about notes or technicalities but rather about expression, life, reality, love, frustrations, all of it!.

I can't say enough how much I am going to miss seeing you entering the stage or just hanging out at a live music event. How we are all going to miss hearing you tear a Led Zeppelin song and making it your own. Wow, your performances were always Wow! From a gentle tone from the heart to a hammer slam from Thor belting phrase, I will never forget those moments.

Your laugh, your strength, and perseverance were beyond remarkable. While others would quit, you didn't, and I know Virginia and Tia, and the rest of your family know that a million times over.

The army of God and the Angels got a mega-warp drive installed, and it is now you Herbi. How sad it is for us that you are no longer here in the physical, but through song, your words, our conversations will NEVER leave me.

As I was typing this, "What Is and What Should Never Be" by Zeppelin just came on my playlist. Did you do that? :) You are ALWAYS going to be touching those in your life, I believe that 100%.
