Obituary for Herbert Eugene Abbey

Herbert E. Abbey, 93, passed away on March 28 and is now at peace with our Lord. He was born June 19, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the youngest of four boys: Charles, George, & Gilbert Abbey. Herb graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood and Newark College of Engineering. He retired from M.W. Kellogg. Herb met his sweetheart, Irma, at the age of 20 and they were married in Christ Lutheran Church 72 years ago. He leaves his four children: Greg Abbey & Laura, Susan Abbey, & her husband, John Koran, Nancy & her husband, Joseph Ardolino, and Pamela & her husband, Michael Pellichero. He also leaves the light of his life, his seven granddaughters: Samantha, Kelsey, Hannah, Abbey, Emily, Erika, & Amber; three great grandsons: Liam, James, & Lucas. Herb had many interests. As a youth, he was a springboard diver and won several competitions. He also got his pilot’s license at the age of 50. He lived in Florham Park for forty years where he raised his family. After he retired, Irma & Herb, moved to Lake Ridge in Toms River where he enjoyed golf and bowling. He was an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brick where he sang in the choir. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St Thomas Lutheran Church 135 Salmon Street, Brick, NJ 08723. Funeral Services will be arranged at a later date. Oliverie Funeral Home, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
