Gisela Tsambikou, 76, of Manchester, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021. Born in Dresden, Germany, she moved with her family to the United States in 1965, where she resided in Brooklyn, New York, and later relocated to Pine Lake Park in 1975. Gisela was an artist who expressed her creativity in various decorative forms such as painting, macramé and Fabergé eggs. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword and word search puzzles, gardening and taking walks with her family around Pine Lake. She was passionate about her community and enriching the lives of those around her. In the early 1990s, she received recognition by the Manchester Township Municipal Utilities Authority for her contribution in providing Pine Lake Park residents with a water distribution system after it was discovered that the drinking water was contaminated. She spent years working with community leaders to get the once polluted Pine Lake cleaned and reopened for swimming. She also received a certificate for her support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm from the 1681 Airlift Control Squadron, stationed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. She was recognized for organizing the delivery of stationary and personal items to our U.S. troops. In addition, she conceived the idea of working with the community to sew together bedsheets that displayed painted handprints and positive affirmations of the residents and their children, which were later sent to Saudi Arabia to provide moral support for our military. Prior to retiring, Gisela worked for Flora Craft, an art supply company in Manchester, where she enjoyed interacting with friends and customers. Gisela will be remembered as a loving, giving wife and mother. She cherished the time spent with her family cooking and playing board games during holidays, particularly Easter, the 4th of July and Christmas. Her sense of humor was appreciated by many and she had a propensity for adding an “s” to singular words like “spaghettis.” Gisela will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Eirene, and sister, Gertrude Teal. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Nikolaos Tsambikou, daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Eric Day, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Vicky Tsambikou, and son Michael Tsambikou; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer & husband Jerry, Bridget, Nicholas, Emily and Alexander and two great grandchildren, Jayden and Jordyn.
