Obituary for Eugene J Anderson Jr

It is with our deepest sympathies that we announce the passing of beloved Eugene J. Anderson, Jr., 83, of Toms River on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born on January 20, 1937 in Elizabeth and resided in Nutley for 30 years with his loving wife, Rita, before moving to the Lake Ridge community in Toms River in 1995. He devoted his life to serving as an active firefighter for the City of Newark and retired as a Fire Captain for Engine #1 in 1992 after 30 years of service. Continuing his love of firefighting into retirement, he was as a member of the retired Police & Firemen’s Association of Ocean County. Prior to becoming a firefighter, he served his country as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp from 1955-1959 in Korea. While living in the Lake Ridge community, he was an active member in the Men’s Club, Bingo, & Poker Club. He also volunteered with the ARC Committee in Lake Ridge, loved playing golf and was a member of the North Arlington Elks Club Lodge #1992. Eugene will always be remembered as loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He is predeceased in death by his father, Eugene J. Anderson, Sr, his mother, Christine Anderson, and sister, Jeannette Miller. Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years, Rita; son, George J. & wife Lynn of Cedar Grove, daughter Michelle Petrich & husband Thomas of Pfafftown, NC; grandchildren, Christy, Lauri, Stephanie & Tyler; and great grandchildren Zachary & Madelyn. He also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation is Monday 3-6 pm with a 5 pm service at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester NJ 08759. Cremation is private. Inurnment will be at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 91891, Washington, DC 20090.
