Obituary for Elsie D Tuttle

Print
Elsie Dorothy Tuttle passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Elsie was born on August 12, 1936, to first generation German immigrants Martha and Frederich Schmidt. She was very close to her only brother Frederick J. Schmidt Sr. who predeceased her in 2011. Elsie was always very proud of her heritage and embraced all that celebrated German culture, food and music.
Elsie was born in Jersey City and attended Zion Lutheran Church where she met her husband, Lewis J. Tuttle (Jack) at Luther League. They married in 1956 and were together for 47 years until his passing in 2003. Elsie had a successful career as a geriatric nurse at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison where she was employed as a RN and then nursing supervisor for close to 30 years. Her compassion and care for the geriatric community was something that she was incredibly proud of and particularly in these past two months, she reminded those around her of the importance of dignity and the elderly. Elsie enjoyed the women’s bible study group at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manchester and considered the women involved, her sisters in Christ. Elsie was a dedicated parishioner and never missed a weekly service as her faith was a very important part of her life. The overwhelming support of her church family sustained her and her family during her brief illness and the incredible number of cards she received reminded Elsie and her family of how much she was loved. She enjoyed Mahjong with close neighborhood friends and was a member of the singles club and Jersey City Club among other activities and she loved attending many social events at The Renaissance in Manchester. She enjoyed travel and even cruised to Bermuda in her 80th year.
Elsie was the proud mother of three children, Linda A. Rabolt (Steve), John W. Tuttle (Donna) and Laurie J. Fontana (Tom). She was the grandmother of eight grandchildren - Katy Vollhaber (Dan), Andrew Rabolt, Allison Murphy (Chris), Keith Tuttle, Paige, Cassidy, Carson and Lane Fontana - and four great grandchildren - Lennon, Willow and Tess Murphy and Tristan Vollhaber.
In her later years, her entire focus was on her cherished family. Her genuine love, care and concern for everyone in her life will be her legacy as she truly was focused on the well-being of everyone around her. She was incredibly loved and will be missed each and every day for her quiet strength, her faith in God and her love of everything family.
