Obituary for Catherine L Cummings

Catherine L. Cummings:
December 5, 1935 – December 25, 2020

Catherine "Kitty" L. Cummings, 85, of Lake Ridge section of Toms River, died peacefully in her sleep early on Friday, December 25, 2020. She will be remembered as a vibrant, loving, joyful, and devoted mother, grandmother, family member, and friend.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of Catherine (Rogers) White and Paul White, Sr. She attended Saint Al's Academy, an all-girls parochial high school, on an academic scholarship. She then completed a secretarial program and worked for Colgate-Palmolive. At age 23, she married William R. Cummings, a loving husband and father, who predeceased Catherine on April 9, 2013.

Together, Catherine and William lived and raised a family in Jersey City, Hazlet, Manalapan and Bridgewater, NJ, and then retired to Brick and Toms River, NJ. She was a dedicated homemaker and loved to sit down to family dinners nightly. Over time, she resumed working as a secretary for many years before retiring.

Catherine loved her family above all else. She especially enjoyed spending long days near the ocean, traveling on vacations, watching movies, reading, dining out, dancing, appreciating nature, and gathering with friends and family. She was a devout Catholic. With her bright eyes, big smile, quick wit, and keen sense of humor, she attracted strong bonds wherever she went, making numerous dear lifelong friends.

Catherine was the heart of her family, and the love she shared with her children and grandchildren will always be cherished. She will live on in the hearts of her children, William J. Cummings and his partner Tammy Domanico, Kathy Cummings, Joanne M. Fitzgerald and husband Paul Fitzgerald, and John C. Cummings, as well as her grandchildren, Matthew Brink, Scott Simpson, Kaitlin Fitzgerald, and Theresa Cummings, her brother Paul White, Jr., and all her relatives and friends.

Interment for Catherine is 1 PM on January 4, 2021 at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. Friends and family are welcome, with prescribed social distancing guidelines in place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Food for the Poor, Inc., or a charity of your choice. A Catholic Mass and memorial celebration of her life will be planned in 2021.
