Obituary for Carol R Tjakkes

Carol R Tjakkes 80 of Manchester died Sunday January 31, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she resided in Toms River since 1986 with a brief residency in Prospect Park from 1995-2003. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her compassionate nature brought her to Catholic Families in Pompton Lakes where she worked as a Respite Worker. Her love for crafting and chocolate-making influenced her business, “Creations by Carol”, where she and her husband, Harold, sold handmade crafts and chocolate candies. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing solitaire, word searches, reading and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Family held a big place in her heart, cherishing moments like reminiscing with her sisters while making grape leaves and teaching her grandchildren how to sew. Much like her father, she loved telling her many nostalgic life stories to anyone who would listen. Carol is predeceased by her husband Harold H Tjakkes Sr, her parents Diego & Florence “Lorice” Bongiorno, step-son, Harold H Tjakkes Jr, and her sister Marilyn Lota. Surviving is her daughter, Michelle Isphording & her husband, Justin; step-daughter, Sharon Nardi & husband, Ron; sister, Helen Bongiorno and 4 grandchildren, Alexander Nardi and Nicholas, Madison, & Christian Isphording. Visitation is Friday 4-8 pm with a 7 pm service at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Interment is Saturday at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Parkinson’s Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
